A key hospital in the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh, has announced the implementation of a brand new, sophisticated internet protocol (IP telephony) system covering its entire site.
The hospital – the Specialised Medical Centre Hospital (SMCH) – employs nearly 2,000 staff, including doctors, paramedics and support personnel. The SMCH also has capacity for more than 450 overnight stay patients, together with extensive outpatient facilities.

Australia’s National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), has announced that it intends replacing its out-of-date telephone exchange with a state of the art internet protocol (IP) telephony system.
The NHMRC says the new system is needed to properly service the various communication needs of its 220 Melbourne-based staff, together with the additional 25 staff at its Canberra-based office.

Leading global market analysis firm Infonetics Research has produced a new study which, it says, demonstrates the increasing demand for unified communications (UC) solutions among enterprises across all regions worldwide.
The new study – the Enterprise UC, VoIP, and TDM report – is the latest in a series of quarterly surveys carried out by Infonetics Research into the ongoing development of these markets.

A new study by independent market analysis provide Reportlinker has identified considerable ongoing growth in the take-up of internet protocol (IP) telephony in the US.
According to the report – entitle ‘North American VoIP Access and SIP Trunking Services Market’ – this growth has been buoyed by both the need to replace ageing business phone systems and by an increasing realisation among potential business customers of the benefits of IP telephony.

The government’s well-publicised plans to boost additional superfast broadband expansion throughout the UK – by providing £530m in funding towards private enterprise broadband infrastructure development schemes – has been approved by the European Union (EU).
The EU consent had been essential given that state aid of this kind – and the magnitude of the investment – might otherwise have been challenged as anti-competitive under EU guidelines.

Wiltshire College has revealed that, since having replaced its business phone network with a single system based on internet protocol (IP) telephony and business VoIP (voice over internet protocol), it is on course to secure annual savings on its phone costs of £70,000.
The new IP telephony system is understood to link more than 1,000 phone extensions over the college’s four campuses and is capable of handling around 15,000 calls each week.

A business group set up to push for the development of high speed broadband services in the area surrounding Chipping Norton has put its weight behind a managed investment scheme designed to encourage further funding for the project.
