An influential new study has predicted that the market for business VoIP (voice over internet protocol) in the US is likely to expand considerably between now and 2018. The study, carried out by independent analyst organisation, IBISWorld updates a previous US VoIP market report which was carried out by the company at an earlier date.

Essex County Council has announced the inclusion of internet protocol (IP) telephony and business VoIP (voice over internet protocol) systems as part of a proposed new state of the art communications infrastructure for its range of services. The planned £81m development is intended to eventually connect not only the council’s own administration buildings, but also libraries, educational establishments, and providers of essential emergency services in the county.

Global business VoIP (voice over internet protocol) and internet protocol (IP) telephony handset manufacturer and distributor, snom, has been handed a top industry award for its family of desktop models – the 7xx range. The award – for Internet Telephony Magazine Product of the Year – was given to snom by the magazine’s publishing company, TMC, in recognition of the 7xx range’s provision of quality progress in the field of enterprise communications.

A leading Chinese-based insurance company, Huaxia Life, has deployed a new internet protocol (IP) telephony and business VoIP (voice over internet protocol) system connecting 100 branches across China. The company says that it plans to link a further 200 offices within the next few years as its market expansion continues.
Huaxia Life says that its move towards IP telephony and business VoIP was influenced both by the scale of the company’s growth, and by its being hampered by an overall branch communications network breakdown every time the traditional exchange system based at its main Beijing headquarters failed.

IC Realtime, a producer of sophisticated surveillance equipment with offices in Dublin and the US, has opened up a new base in the UK, which it has decided to service communications-wise using a new hosted internet protocol (IP) telephony system.
The new system is understood to come complete with full business VoIP (voice over internet protocol) facilities, including the provision of IP telephony desktop phones – together with phone numbers which can be used at any location wherever there is a suitable internet connection.

BT’s wholesale high-speed broadband connection tariff is to be substantially reduced from summer next year, the company has announced.
The monthly tariff – which is based on allowing third parties to connect homes and businesses using fibre optic technology to provide internet speeds of up to 300Mbps – is to be reduced from £60 to £38 per connection.

A new survey carried out among resellers of business phone systems in the US has acknowledged business VoIP (voice over internet protocol) as being among the key forces behind the major changes they expect to see regarding the scope of their future activities.
The survey, carried out by research organisation ATLANTIC-ACM, found that 72% of those resellers questioned believed there to be an evolutionary trend towards total business VoIP penetration.

A new study from the US has identified business VoIP (voice over internet protocol) as the main service currently being exploited via unified communications (UC) technologies.
The study, by the respected media commentary and advice firm TechTarget, found that UC – whereby communications from different sources are able to be received at a common convenient reception point – is most frequently utilised in the form of business VoIP by 63.2% of IT professionals surveyed.

A regional emergency medical centre in the U.S. has revealed the benefits of its recent decision to install a major internet protocol (IP) telephony facility.
Shippensburg Area Emergency Medical Services (SAEMS) says that although outlay on its state of the art combined IT, IP telephony and business VoIP (voice over internet protocol) installation – which it shares along with the Vigilant Hose Company – cost in the region of $7m, it now enjoys lower monthly phone costs as a result.
