In recent news, BT, one of UK’s leading telecoms company has made an astounding promise to pledge £20m towards rolling out FTTP ultrafast broadband to Northern Ireland.
A quote from Mairead Meyer, BT NI’s Managing Director of Networks, said:
“We’re delighted to be investing at this significant level, delivering against our local ambition to futureproof our Northern Ireland infrastructure and rank favorably amongst the best fibre networks in Europe.
Through our current investment programmes, 25 percent of homes and businesses in Northern Ireland are scheduled to have access to ultrafast broadband by March 2019.These investments are underpinning Northern Ireland’s internet economy and society and bringing an online experience like never before to consumers and organizations.
ultimately about driving choice and competition in this market because the network is available on an open wholesale basis to all broadband providers, meaning households and businesses will benefit from a choice of services, competitive pricing and products.”
Not only will 140,000 (we’ll see about that) homes and businesses have fast internet, but BT also hopes to bring new opportunities. The telecoms giant hopes to be able to recruit an additional 42 apprentices and graduates over the next 10 months for roles such as designing, planning and building the new network.
Now, If you live in rural Northern Ireland then you’re gonna have to pop the balloons and put away the bunting, because BT is only supplying their broadband to urban areas. I know you’re sad, but fear not, we’re sad too.
Rural areas will probably be missed again
