Business VoIP handset manufacturer, Snom, has appointed a new chief technology officer (CTO) to its board.
Usman Tahir, previously Snom’s vice-president, product management, takes on the prestigious role, assuming overall responsibility for the company’s technological and engineering development.
Commenting on the appointment, Snom’s chief operating officer, Dr Michael Knieling, said:
‘Usman’s extensive experience in engineering and business are perfectly suited to his new role at Snom. His deep technical knowledge and understanding of the company’s structure and long-term goals is key to Snom’s strategic planning and continued success as a technology leader.’
Tahir’s career at Snom goes all the way back to 2001 when he joined as a senior software engineer. Tahir has also served as a design engineer with AVAZ Networks, and additionally has experience with Communications Enabling Technologies.
Tahir’s academic achievements are also worthy of note, having obtained a BA in political science and sociology, and a BE (CS and EE) at the National University of Sciences and Technology; together with an MBA in International Business at the University of Stuttgart.
Referring to his new appointment, Tahir said:
‘Snom is recognised worldwide for its dedication to high-quality VoIP products, and I am proud to be a part of Snom’s leadership team. I look forward to my new role as CTO and the opportunity to impact the strategic growth of the company.’
The appointment comes at what many see as an exciting time for Snom, as business VoIP (voice over internet protocol) and internet protocol (IP) telephony in general are predicted to grow in popularity over the next few years.
Snom will be keen to maintain its strong position in the business VoIP handset market, as a leading choice both for in-house business VoIP installations, and the increasing number of hosted IP telephony solutions provided by a business VoIP provider or VoIP reseller,
