BMI has signed a deal with Avaya which will see the airline installing the telecommunications supplier’s IP telephony system.
Two of Avaya’s IP Office 500 systems have been deployed by BMI, along with SIP trunking, Avaya Flare for touch screen unified communications, and 150 IP handsets.
BMI has joined its two primary sites, one in Aberdeen and another at Donington Hall, with its new system. It has also connected its 150 employees working remotely throughout the UK on the same system.
In addition to internal communications, Avaya’s system has made improvements to BMI’s customer interaction. The Contact Store implementation helps in training and recording calls.
BMI’s head of information technology, Shehzad Mahroof, said:
“It is critical for BMI to have a communications system that is essentially future-proofed and it was clear to us that Avaya IP Office offered the best of all worlds, with top-notch communications, easily networked systems and, most importantly, true disaster recovery options.
“With Avaya, we now have the opportunity to best serve our customers and link in remote employees.”
NT Voice and Data installed the system. It said that the deployment resulted in the BMI’s communication systems seeing zero downtime.
Avaya’s UK and Ireland managing director, Simon Culmer, said that the airline is a great case study of a firm that knows all too well how central communications are to achieving company goals.
Avaya IP Office is a system with the ability to grow alongside the business and readily adapt to the company’s needs and customer desires, ensuring that an efficient and smooth interaction takes place.
The system was deployed in eight days, which included training call centre mangers. The airline now hopes to see the disaster recovery system rolled out to additional sites across the UK, resulting in the firm’s operations come together even more closely.
