VoIP migration firm Citel has announced that it will be exhibiting its Portico TVA device at the ITEXPO exhibition, which takes place in Las Vegas later this month.
Microsoft has also requested the attendance of Broadway Connect Telecom Inc, one of Citel’s Partners, so it can demonstrate how the new solution enables legacy devices to work in harmony with Lync.
The main purpose of Microsoft Lync is to offer end users the ability to communicate with soft phones over IP. However, a large number of customers maintain a preference for the technology’s physical counterpart. By using the Broad-Connect system, businesses can ensure their older handsets are SIP enabled. This also guarantees a cost-effective, efficient and speedy switch to voice.
The existing wiring infrastructure can be utilised to match phones up to the software, which retains the Cat 5 cabling, purely for data needs – this resolves any potential quality of service issues.
Speaking about the new product, Citel’s Sales and Marketing vice president, Ian Gomm, said:
“There has been a great deal of interest at Citel in having the Portico TVA work with Microsoft Lync; however, due to compatibility issues, that was always a concern. However, Broad-Connect developed a server system that bridged the compatibility issue and we are looking forward to working with them to bring this joint solution to market.”
The new configuration will allow large companies which reach out to diversified markers to ensure that all of their telephony and IT solutions can be moved over to MS Lync with minimal inconvenience.

important functionality benefits associated with IP telephony. They can also integrate added functionality with their current handsets.
The ITEXPO exhibit is set to take place at the Mandalay Bay Hotel from August 26-29.
